The Catalan Waste Agency has opened a one-million-euro aid line to finance the removal of asbestos from roofs damaged by hailstorms in June and August 2025 in Ripollès, Garrotxa, and Alt Urgell.

The Agència de Residus de Catalunya (ARC), under the Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition, has announced aid for the cleaning, removal, transport, and treatment of asbestos (fiber cement) waste damaged by exceptional meteorological events. The goal is to promote the correct management of this hazardous material.
This 1 million euro funding line is based on two reports from the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (Meteocat) that define the affected areas. The first report corresponds to the hailstorm on June 1, 2025, which impacted Ripollès and Garrotxa. The second refers to the hailstorm on August 19, 2025, which affected Alt Urgell.
The municipalities included in the call are Vilallonga de Ter and Llanars in Ripollès. In Garrotxa, Santa Pau, Sant Joan les Fonts, la Vall d’en Bas, and Mieres are included. Regarding Alt Urgell, the subsidy is aimed at the municipality of les Valls d’Aguilar.
The ARC specified that the aid not only covers pending work but can also finance the economic costs of asbestos removals already carried out on roofs damaged by the storms. The deadline for submitting applications is one month from the publication of the call.
