One of the walls in Devesa del Pla in Ripoll has been transformed into a space dedicated to the revival of obsolete words. This initiative is part of the Artistes del canvi (Artists of Change) project, where students from the Salesian School of Ripoll have been responsible for inscribing terms no longer commonly used, such as “Bressolar”, “apriar”, or “abastar”. Currently, the mural features approximately 200 words.
This activity is part of a collaboration with the Salesian NGO Bosco Global and other organizations, aiming for students to work on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda. The school's director, Núria Moret, emphasized the importance of art as a vehicle to express a desire for change and improvement.
“"The intention is that we can keep adding words, that it grows, and that anyone who wishes can participate."
The collection of words has been an ongoing process, and Marta Freixedas has collaborated on the typography design. The mural is conceived as a constantly evolving work, a "blank canvas" open to community participation.
The Artistes del canvi project has involved different educational cycles with various artistic proposals. While the senior cycle focused on 'The Wall of Words', Eudald Alabau will direct a parade this week on SDGs related to the environment and recycling. The younger students, with the help of Marta Guillamet, will create clay pieces for a mosaic, and the middle cycle, with Antonela Lauri, has developed a mural on peace and cultural diversity.
To culminate these initiatives, on April 29th at 4 PM, the exhibition hall of the Ethnographic Museum of Ripoll will host a joint exhibition. This exhibition, which will remain open until the end of May, will showcase the works created by the students and artists involved in the project.
