The Blood Bank's summer campaign aims to attract new blood and plasma donors, starting with an appeal in Ripoll. Donations in the town will take place at the church of Sant Pere on Thursday, July 30th, from 5 PM to 9 PM, and on Friday, July 31st, from 9 AM to 1 PM and 5 PM to 9 PM.
The Blood and Tissue Bank warns that blood donations could decrease by up to 20% during the summer due to holidays and changes in habits, precisely when they are most needed. The goal is to reach approximately 40,000 donations to ensure stable reserves throughout July and August.
Under the slogan “This summer, we are fans of giving it all,” the importance of blood and plasma throughout the year is highlighted. Plasma is particularly emphasized as essential for manufacturing vital medicines like immunoglobulins, of which Catalonia only covers 39% of the demand.
The campaign intends to incentivize donations through points located at beaches, tourist areas, and cool spaces such as libraries or civic centers. Emphasis is placed on the ease of donating plasma, which can be done every 15 days.
Practical advice for donors is provided, including staying well-hydrated, not donating on an empty stomach, and avoiding sun exposure after donating. For more information and to sign up, the official website can be consulted.
