The Canalet de Tàrrega irrigation community held its general assembly this week to finalize the south connection project with the Segarra-Garrigues canal, expected to be operational by late 2025.

The project aims to solve efficiency issues in the Urgell region. Currently, water is captured in Altet and travels 15 kilometers through aging infrastructure to reach Verdú, resulting in significant water loss and higher costs for local farmers.

"The water currently travels 15 kilometers through old infrastructure with water losses and added costs for farmers."

The assembly also confirmed Guillem Valls as president for a new term. Despite reporting a deficit of 42,482 euros for the last fiscal year, the community celebrated the Generalitat's recent approval of their modernization plan after ten years of negotiations.
