Maintenance crews focused on a three-kilometer stretch that had become impassable for many. The works were brought forward to Sunday to take advantage of favorable weather. Currently, one lane remains closed in each direction as authorities monitor the stability of the new surface.
“"What happened on Friday forces an immediate emergency action. We must act as soon as possible; we cannot wait for the formal start of the works."
Local authorities, including the Mayor of Cervera, Jan Pomés, blamed years of neglected maintenance and harsh winter conditions for the road's collapse. While this emergency fix costs three million euros, a comprehensive 13-million-euro renovation is scheduled to begin in late March.
