The Regional Council of La Segarra has warned of a new increase in uncivic waste dumping in several localities, a recurring problem coinciding with holidays and vacation periods.

This week, the Regional Council of La Segarra has once again detected a worrying increase in uncontrolled waste dumping. This situation has been observed in municipalities such as Vergós de Cervera and Guissona, where overflowing containers, scattered waste on the ground, unseparated materials, and bulky items hindering collection have been noted.
Sources from the regional council's waste management area indicated that these uncontrolled dumps are a recurring issue affecting the entire region. This problem intensifies with the population increase experienced by La Segarra during Easter Week or vacation periods, leading to greater waste generation and improper separation by some citizens. A recent example was Easter Monday, when many people took advantage of the good weather to enjoy the outdoors and deposited their waste in these container areas.
Consequently, the council has had to reinforce its door-to-door waste collection service again, incurring an additional expense of 20,000 euros. The regional entity explained that they often find empty containers with dozens of bags outside them, and even cases where containers are filled with rubble.

Sometimes we find empty containers with dozens of bags outside them, and there are also cases where the containers are full of rubble.

For this reason, the entity has called on citizens to make responsible use of containers, respect collection schedules, and deposit each type of waste in the corresponding fraction. Furthermore, it has warned that abandoning waste in unauthorized spaces can lead to fines ranging from 300 to 2,700 euros. However, the waste management area clarified that these fines are not primarily for revenue collection, as many of them are not ultimately enforced.
