The Department of Agriculture has approved aid worth 33 million euros to improve rural and mountain roads in Catalonia, addressing 80% of municipal requests.

The Department of Agriculture has greenlit an aid plan for the improvement of access roads in rural and mountain areas, covering 80% of the applications submitted by municipalities. This plan, which is part of the priorities of Catalan mayors to ensure the daily lives of citizens, includes a subsidy of 27.8 million euros, totaling an investment of 33.6 million. The multi-year call for applications, valid until 2029, will benefit 303 town councils and comarcal councils.
The Minister of Agriculture, Òscar Ordeig, highlighted the importance of a "well-maintained" infrastructure network, especially for smaller municipalities, which will be able to receive up to 90% of the funding for the works. Larger municipalities can cover up to 70% of the cost. Ordeig emphasized that this is one of the main demands of the mayors, particularly in areas with low population density and large territories, as well as in mountain regions where the costs of intervention are significantly higher.
The mayor of Llardecans, Francesc Xavier Mir, cited the need for such aid in his municipality as an example, with an area of 6,500 hectares and considerable heavy traffic due to livestock farms. Mir pointed out that the roads become "rutted" and that the aid is "insufficient" given the deterioration caused by a rainy winter. He requested more funds from the minister to ensure the safety of residents when traveling to their farms.
In Llardecans, 100,000 euros have been allocated for the repair of a key local road connecting to La Granadella. The municipal intervention includes the asphalting of 2 kilometers of this road, which is heavily used by residents traveling to the medical clinic or the institute.
The territorial distribution of the 419 planned actions includes 23% for Alt Pirineu i Aran (91 actions), 18% for Catalunya Central (77), 23% for Lleida (97), 15% for Girona (62), 13% for Tarragona (58), 4.3% for Penedès (13), and 1% for Barcelona (6).
In the previous call for applications (2023-2025), 390 actions were certified with an investment of over 28.5 million euros, improving 884.83 kilometers of municipal roads across the country.
