The European Union Drugs Agency (EUDA) has detected a significant 30% reduction in cocaine consumption in Lleida during 2024, according to data obtained from wastewater analysis.

The EUDA annual report reveals that cocaine presence in the capital of Segrià has decreased from 0.87 daily grams per thousand inhabitants to 0.62. Despite this downward trend, Lleida remains in 16th position among European cities with the highest use of this drug, surpassing capitals like Rome or Budapest.
Nationally, Lleida ranks third, only behind Tarragona (1.48 grams) and Castellón. The data shows that the consumption rate in the city is almost double that of Barcelona, where the average stands at 349 milligrams.
Regarding other substances, the study indicates a shift in trends: MDMA or ecstasy has overtaken amphetamine in demand. While speed consumption fell to 42.25 milligrams, ecstasy use has nearly quadrupled. Additionally, a 19.6% increase in ketamine use was detected.
