The Alguaire Town Council reported yesterday that a damaged telecommunications cable belonging to Movistar has kept a road connecting to the town closed for over a week. This situation not only affects mobility but has also caused internet connection issues and impacted two private properties.
The second deputy mayor explained that the incident occurred on Sunday, April 12, when a truck snagged the cable. According to the municipal representative, the cable had been in poor condition for some time, and previous warnings to the company had gone unheeded. A home and the structure of a shed, used for economic activity, have been directly affected.
“"For many days, we had a cable hanging very low, and we kept reporting it, but they didn't pay attention to us."
The affected road is an important route connecting Mata de Pinyana with the municipality, regularly used by residents, trucks, and tractors. The closure prevents, among other things, garbage collection, as service vehicles cannot access the area. In addition to mobility problems, the incident has caused internet service interruptions, a situation that the mayor regrets has not been resolved despite repeated contact with the operator.
The municipal representative and residents have pointed out that this is not an isolated case. In fact, a similar incident occurred on the same road on September 3 of last year, which was not resolved until December 31. Given this lack of response, the Town Council has demanded urgent action from the company to remove the cable and restore normalcy to the road.
For its part, the telecommunications company has acknowledged the incident and stated that it is working on its repair. It is worth noting that, recently, the municipality of Os de Balaguer, in Noguera, suffered cable theft attempts that left the town without coverage for two consecutive weekends, with interruptions of more than 30 hours in internet and telephone services.
