The Spanish Government has declassified 153 secret documents regarding the February 23, 1981 coup attempt, revealing the final breakdown between King Juan Carlos I and General Alfonso Armada.

The files released by Moncloa highlight the role of Alfonso Armada, then military governor of Lleida. The reports show how the King's trust in him vanished during the coup, despite a private meeting in Baqueira just 17 days earlier.
According to Cesid intelligence records, the King explicitly refused to let Armada enter Zarzuela Palace. The monarch also warned Milans del Bosch that the coup was an attack against the Crown and ordered the immediate withdrawal of troops from the streets.
