A 56-year-old man, considered high-risk with a criminal record including murders and violent robberies, has been arrested in Lleida after attempting to rob a supermarket with a fake pistol.

Just over a month ago, on April 10th, a highly dangerous and un-rehabilitated inmate was released from Ponent prison in Lleida after serving a sentence for two violent robberies. The 56-year-old individual has a criminal record that includes previous convictions for two murders and one attempted homicide.
His history includes confessing in 2002 to being paid to murder a former Lleida police officer in his Barcelona bar, an act that left the victim a quadriplegic. He was also convicted of murdering a police officer during a bank robbery and another man. Upon his first release in late 2020, he was already considered "high-risk," and just four months later, he was arrested again for two violent supermarket assaults in Lleida.
Despite control measures and police surveillance ordered by the Prosecutor's Office, the man attempted to rob a supermarket on Baró de Maials street, in the Pardinyes neighborhood, armed with a simulated pistol. The incident triggered all alarms, and hours later he was arrested in Balàfia by a patrol from the Guàrdia Urbana.
A psychologist and sociologist who had contact with the individual at Brians prison in Sant Esteve Sesrovires had previously warned that he was a "top-category psychopath" with "zero empathy" and that "he is not rehabilitated simply because he doesn't want to be," predicting a high risk of reoffending.
