The University of Lleida highlights the Aplec del Caragol as a communal space fostering coexistence among different generations and ideologies in Lleida.

The Aplec del Caragol in Lleida has established itself as a key event for social cohesion, as emphasized by the rector of the University of Lleida, Maria Àngels Balsells, during the recent edition's opening speech. The festival is described as an "oasis" amidst the prevalence of digital games and excessive screen use, offering a communal space where different generations and life experiences coexist.
The main value of the Aplec lies in its ability to bring all participants together, regardless of their age, financial resources, or ideologies. Despite differences among the 124 participating groups (colles), with variations in demographics and services offered, they all share the same venue and activities organized by the Federació de Colles (Fecoll). The coexistence during the festival is remarkable, with serious incidents being an exception, considering the tens of thousands of attendees each year.
The Fecoll has been working for years to achieve Catalan, Spanish, and international recognition for this festival, which promotes a unique gastronomic product: snail cuisine. It is important to continue this path for the benefit of Lleida. However, it is reiterated that the essence of the Aplec is the spirit of coexistence and dialogue mentioned by the rector, a crucial element in times of increasing polarization.
In a context of growing polarization, where ideological differences become "trenches," the Aplec del Caragol stands out as a fundamental element for social cohesion in a medium-sized city like Lleida.
