The maximum temperature of 43ºC in Vilanova de Segrià, in El Segrià, recorded yesterday afternoon, has become the second highest ever seen before Sant Joan by the Catalan Meteorological Service stations. This record figure fell just a tenth short of the historical maximum of June 15, 2022 (43.1ºC) at the Riba-roja reservoir.
Other locations in El Segrià such as Lleida (42.4ºC) and Alcarràs (42.1ºC) also experienced extreme temperatures. Several stations in the regions of Ponent, Camp de Tarragona, Terres de l'Ebre, and Catalunya Central surpassed 41ºC, including places like Vinebre (41.8ºC), Castellnou de Seana (41.6ºC), and Torroja del Priorat (41.5ºC).
The regions of Girona recorded less elevated temperatures, while in the metropolitan areas, 39.7ºC was reached in Castellbisbal. In the capital of El Segrià, the heat was particularly intense, with values exceeding 40ºC in El Poal (41.7ºC), Gimenells (41.6ºC), Alfarràs (41.6ºC), and Torres de Segre (41.5ºC) even by mid-afternoon.
In the central regions, Artés registered 41.4ºC, surpassing Cardona's 40.4ºC. In Camp de Tarragona, Priorat led the high temperatures, with notable values in Torroja del Priorat and El Masroig (40.4ºC). In Ribera d'Ebre, Vinebre's 41.8ºC were higher than readings from other locations such as the Riba-roja reservoir (39.9ºC) and Ascó (39.7ºC).
