Five of the most iconic establishments in the Zona Alta district of Lleida have announced their permanent closure this March, citing a lack of generational takeover and difficulties in finding staff.

The most notable closure is Calçats Espuña, located on Doctor Fleming Avenue. After 75 years and three generations of the same family, the shop has closed its doors. Manager Jordi Serra noted that the business began in 1950.

"I am satisfied and proud of the personalized service we provided; I knew over 90% of our customers."

Other closures include La Percha, where owner Rosabel Trench is retiring after 52 years, and Andrea Xilf, which will close on March 31st. Local merchants express concern over the future of traditional retail in the city.
