The Vice President of El Salvador, Félix Ulloa, worked as a seasonal fruit picker in Aitona during his youth, an experience that forged a lasting friendship with the current mayor, Rosa Pujol.

The career of Félix Ulloa is a testament to how life can connect distant realities. In 1979, after graduating in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid, the Central American politician decided to spend the summer in Lleida picking peaches and pears on the Pujol family estate.

"I loved returning to Aitona and seeing how the town has changed and grown; it brings back pleasant memories of my youth."

This period in the Segrià region marked the beginning of a personal relationship that has lasted nearly five decades. Ulloa, who plans to visit the town again at the end of this summer, highlights the municipality's transformation. Meanwhile, Rosa Pujol has also traveled to El Salvador to visit her longtime friend.
In the political sphere, Ulloa joined Nayib Bukele's government in 2019. Since then, he has defended the Salvadoran executive's management, emphasizing the investment of 5% of GDP in education and significant improvements in public safety.
