The Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital in Lleida currently supports 130 minors through its Complex Chronic and Palliative Pediatric Patient Unit, focusing on home-based medical assistance.

Established in 2018, this multidisciplinary team includes pediatricians, nurses, social workers, and psychologists. Their goal is to optimize the quality of life for children with life-limiting conditions by providing care at home, thus preventing the stress of constant travel to Barcelona hospitals.

"We used to spend whole seasons living at the hospital, but with this unit, everything is well controlled."

Galdina Valls, from the Servei Català de la Salut, emphasized the importance of emotional support for families and the need for more specialized professionals. The health department aims to increase resources for this network, pending new budget approvals, to ensure more children can receive treatment in their own environment.
