The Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital in Lleida has established a home-care model that prevents unnecessary travel and hospital stays for children with life-limiting conditions since 2018.

The Chronic Complex and Palliative Pediatric Patient Unit focuses on optimizing the quality of life for minors. The multidisciplinary team currently manages 40 direct patients and supports 90 more through Primary Care services, including nursing and psychological support.

"Since joining this unit, hospital admissions have decreased because care is provided at home. Everything is better controlled now."

By providing services like blood tests at home, the unit avoids frequent trips to Barcelona hospitals. Galdina Valls, from the Catalan Health Service, emphasized the need for specialized professionals to sustain this essential emotional and medical support network.
