The Institut d'Estudis Ilerdencs (IEI) has added 1,919 images of Lleida to its photographic archive, covering the period from 1904 to 1964, thanks to a donation from the Almacellas family.

The President of the Diputació de Lleida, Joan Talarn, and the author's grandson, Víctor Íñiguez Almacellas, formalized the donation at the IEI library. The collection was created by Pedro Almacellas, a local merchant who opened one of the city's first photography supply stores in 1904.

"The goal of giving the collection to the IEI is for it to be part of the history of Lleida and for everyone to be able to see it."

The archive includes 188 glass plates and 407 stereoscopic plates, which provide a 3D visual experience. The images capture monuments, landscapes, and social events, some of which were featured in the magazine Ciudad starting in 1949.
This donation ensures the preservation and digitalization of private historical documents, making them accessible to the general public and enriching the visual heritage of the Ponent region.
