The Universitat de Lleida (UdL) hosts 4,050 students who do not reside in the Lleida counties, many of whom initially preferred Barcelona or Tarragona, according to Idescat data for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Four first-year students of the Bilingual Primary Education degree, originally from Igualada, Girona, and l'Arboç, admitted that the Universitat de Lleida (UdL) was not their first choice. After almost a semester, they are satisfied with the experience, although they acknowledge that the studies “are not that easy.”

Very few people want to come to Lleida, but then very few people want to leave.

According to the Statistical Institute of Catalonia (Idescat), of the 9,487 university students residing in the Lleida demarcation in the 2023-2024 academic year, 56% (5,325) studied at the UdL. Of the 4,160 who chose to attend other universities, the vast majority (86.2%) opted for centers in the Barcelona area.
Regarding external students, the 4,050 non-residents studying in Lleida mainly come from the Barcelona demarcation (1,335) and Tarragona (860). Notably, 1,680 of these students have their registered domicile outside Catalonia.
