The Lleida City Council and several municipalities in Huesca have established a working group to promote a competitive commuter rail line between Lleida and Monzón.

The initiative aims to upgrade the current railway connection to encourage daily mobility and reduce car use. Representatives from towns such as Binéfar, Almacelles, and Tamarite are preparing a formal proposal to be submitted this spring to the Generalitat, the Government of Aragon, and the Ministry of Transport.

"Supply generates demand, and the goal is to reduce car dependency."

Preliminary studies suggest the line could serve 700,000 passengers annually if it offers between seven and ten trains per direction. Currently, the service is limited to only two daily frequencies, which do not meet the needs of workers and students in the Segrià and Cinca Medio regions.
