The city of Lleida and several municipalities along the A-22 corridor have launched a joint initiative to establish a commuter rail service to Monzón, featuring up to 20 daily trains.

The project aims to provide a sustainable alternative to car travel in an area experiencing rapid industrial expansion. A technical study will be presented this spring to the Spanish Ministry of Transport and the regional governments of Catalonia and Aragon.

"Supply generates demand, and the goal is to reduce car dependency."

Experts estimate the line could serve 700,000 passengers annually. This infrastructure is seen as vital for the region, where 5,000 new jobs are expected to be created in the next two years, increasing pressure on local housing and transport networks.
