Lleida awards new 260 million euro cleaning contract

The City Council approves a ten-year deal to increase staff to 300 and double the number of service vehicles.

The Lleida City Council approved on Monday a new waste management and street cleaning contract worth 260 million euros, representing a 60% increase over the previous budget.

The contract was awarded to the joint venture Romero Polo-Valoriza and will run for ten years starting April 23rd. The new plan includes expanding the workforce to 300 employees and doubling the fleet to 120 vehicles to improve urban maintenance.

Deputy Mayor Begoña Iglesias emphasized that the new service will feature high-pressure water cleaning and immediate response teams. Opposition parties, including PP and Junts, called for stricter oversight and measures to combat littering, such as surveillance cameras and smart containers.
