Starting Monday, the Social Security headquarters on Jordi Cortada street in Lleida will centralize in-person processing for the extraordinary regularization of immigrants. Four service points have been set up, operating from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Alternatively, Correos offices on Rambla Ferran and Segovia street will also offer services from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM. In all cases, a prior appointment will be mandatory.
This measure comes after the regularization initiative launched by the State led to long queues outside municipal offices in Lleida. It is estimated that around 7,000 people in the region could benefit from this process.
“"This setup is insufficient for the entire province."
The Support Network for Regularization has described the setup as «insufficient», emphasizing that the reinforcement should cover the entire province. Furthermore, they have raised concerns about the accessibility of the online process, which requires a digital certificate, difficult to obtain without a residence card.
The Network has also urged the central Government to clarify the exact procedures for processing applications to collaborating social entities, as they believe «many things remain pending».
The initiation of this procedure will allow interested individuals to work throughout Spain, a fact that, according to Third Sector entities, will «triple» the number of people seeking employment during the fruit harvesting season. This will lead to a significant increase in seasonal workers starting in May.
However, sources familiar with the process have indicated that the number of appointments granted initially will be «limited», ruling out immediate saturation. They noted that prior appointments can also be requested online and by phone. These same sources admitted that the extraordinary regularization will «mobilize the labor market» in Lleida, not only in the fruit sector but also in other areas with a need for workforce.
