This urban planning action, described by Mayor Fèlix Larrosa as "the largest expropriation carried out in the city," is part of the comprehensive recovery plan for the Centre Històric (Old Town). The acquisition affects 4,458 square meters of land, with a maximum buildable area of 14,743 meters, owned by about thirty people, where 30 to 42 residents currently live.
The first and largest sector to be expropriated, covering 1,700 square meters, is located between Múrcia, Veguer de Carcassona, Boters streets and Cervantes square. Between 60 and 70 homes are planned here, specifically for the university community, utilizing a 'coliving' system.
“"Through the coliving system, we want these apartments to be used by students, professors, and researchers from the University of Lleida given its proximity to the Rectorate building."
The other three sectors are mainly located around the Plaça del Dipòsit. The second sector, 826 square meters, will allow the construction of 30 homes, while the third (699 m²) will accommodate 22. The last sector, 1,264 square meters, located at the end of Cavallers street, will have capacity for 28 homes.
The process will begin with an initial approval via decree, followed by a 20-day public exhibition. Once the Paeria holds ownership of the plots, they will be included in the Generalitat registry so that private operators can bid and benefit from Government aid.
