The Lleida contra la MAT platform urged local town councils and the Segrià County Council this March to file formal objections against the PLATER renewable energy plan.

The organization criticizes the Sectoral Territorial Plan for the Implementation of Renewable Energies in Catalonia (PLATER) for assigning 3,789.1 megawatts to the region. According to the platform, this capacity would generate seven times the current electricity consumption of Segrià, turning the area into a structural energy exporter for the Barcelona metropolitan area.

"The planning is territorially disproportionate and insufficiently justified."

A major concern is the impact on agriculture, as the plan could affect 1,180 hectares of farmland. The proposal includes 1,415.9 MW of solar power and 2,373.2 MW of wind power by 2050, which the platform deems excessive for the local landscape.
