The second day of the heatwave has brought extreme temperatures to Catalonia, with Lleida reaching 42.4°C, the third highest temperature ever recorded before Sant Joan by the stations of the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya. This mark places the capital of Segrià among the highest records for this time of year.
Other nearby locations also experienced very high temperatures. Alcarràs reached 42.1°C, while several stations in the regions of Ponent, Camp de Tarragona, Terres de l’Ebre, and Catalunya Central surpassed 41°C. Among these are Vinebre (41.8°C), Castellnou de Seana (41.6°C), Torroja del Priorat (41.5°C), and Artés (41.4°C).
The peak of 42.4°C at the Lleida station, recorded around five in the afternoon, fell less than a degree short of the absolute heat record before Sant Joan, which occurred on June 15, 2022, with 43.1°C at the Riba-roja reservoir. On that same day, Vinebre registered 42.6°C.
The highest June temperature according to Meteocat data was recorded on June 29, 2019, with 43.8°C in Alcarràs. During that same heatwave, Lleida city recorded 43.1°C on the same day and 42.5°C the day before. This week, the capital of Segrià has experienced one of the most extreme heat peaks for the city at this time of year.
Intense heat was also felt in Vilanova de Segrià (41.9°C), Poal (41.7°C), Gimenells (41.6°C), Alfarràs (41.6°C), and Torres de Segre (41.5°C). In the Lleida regions, temperatures exceeded 40°C even after the afternoon.
In the central regions, the maximum temperature in Artés was one degree higher than the 40.4°C in Cardona. In the Camp de Tarragona, Priorat led the high temperatures, with notable values in Torroja del Priorat and El Masroig (40.4°C). In the Ribera d’Ebre, the 41.8°C in Vinebre surpassed the 39.9°C from the Riba-roja reservoir and the 39.7°C from Ascó.
