The Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) has presented a pilot plan in Lleida to streamline practical driving tests, introducing exams on Saturdays starting from the second half of May.

This initiative aims to alleviate the backlog reported by driving schools, which have indicated waiting times of up to four months for candidates. The plan, also to be implemented in Navarra, includes the incorporation of itinerant examiners to increase assessment capacity.

"We are facing a shock plan that requires a joint effort from both the DGT and the driving schools to organize this operation starting from the second half of May."

The DGT has requested driving schools to provide a list of students prepared for the road test. These additional exams will be exclusively for obtaining a Class B driving license (passenger cars).
Although the Lleida Driving Schools Association acknowledges the DGT's willingness to improve the situation, which they consider "absolutely unsustainable" for years, they express reservations. They believe the measure is insufficient if not accompanied by deeper structural solutions.

"If it is not accompanied by real structural measures, it is insufficient, because it does not address the underlying problem."

Furthermore, driving schools perceive the proposal to conduct Saturday exams as a "complete mockery" due to the conditions presented. They criticize that it is limited only to Lleida city, excluding students from other locations such as La Seu, Solsona, Vielha, or Puigcerdà, that it is only for Class B licenses, and that it was communicated with "absolutely insufficient" notice.
During the first quarter of the current year, 3,299 tests were conducted in the province, representing a slight decrease of 1.02% compared to the same period last year.
