The Lleida City Council has announced an increase in actions to control the wood pigeon population in Rambla Ferran and Doctora Castells street to prevent the degradation of public spaces.

The city's mayor, Fèlix Larrosa, confirmed that methods already proven effective, such as selective tree pruning and systematic nest removal, will be intensified. These actions aim to hinder the breeding of these birds in areas where their droppings cause significant damage to pavement and benches.

"The main problem for cleaning this street are the wood pigeons, which have become accustomed to living here."

One of the most unique tools is the use of a trained Harris hawk. The flights of this bird of prey create a memory of danger for the pigeons, which eventually leave the area naturally. According to municipal data, tests conducted since last July have reduced the presence of birds by 50%.
In addition to wood pigeons, the Paeria is also acting against starling plagues, which are particularly critical around the Arnau de Vilanova Hospital and the Fleming area. In these spots, technologies such as laser beams and the release of falcons are being used.
