The Lleida Provincial Council has launched a 3.5 million euro funding program to increase social housing availability in rural municipalities, aiming to tackle the demographic challenge in Catalonia.

The grants are available for towns listed in the Rural Municipality Statute. Local councils can use the funds for the purchase or renovation of residential properties. The program expects to create at least 35 new homes for social rent, with a focus on villages under 500 inhabitants.

"We are aware of the lack of housing in the region, especially in rural areas."

Agustí Jiménez · Vice-president of the Lleida Provincial Council
In the previous call, 33 municipalities benefited from the scheme, resulting in 44 renovated homes. The presentation took place in la Vansa i Fórnols, a village that has successfully integrated 35 new residents through public housing projects.
