The Lleida City Council is set to begin work this Monday at Sant Jordi School to remove eleven unstable pine trees and plant safer alternatives.

The decision follows safety concerns raised by the Parents' Association after several trees showed a significant lean. Recent heavy winds caused another tree to fall this week, highlighting the urgency of the intervention in an area that had already been cordoned off for protection.
A technical report from December 2025 confirmed that the trees were too slender and exposed to dominant winds. Additionally, recent soil water accumulation had further weakened their roots, making the remaining pines a high risk for the school community.
The renovation plan includes planting nine deciduous trees, specifically chosen for their resilience to local weather conditions. These new trees will be spaced further apart to promote healthy growth and provide safe shaded areas for students. Work is expected to be completed by next week.
