The European Union Drugs Agency (EUDA) has identified Lleida as the Spanish city with the highest concentration of cocaine in its wastewater during 2025.

In Barcelona, cocaine detection has nearly tripled in a single year, showing a 185% increase compared to 2024. This surge brings the city back to consumption levels last seen in 2017, ending a period of decline.
Lleida now ranks third in Europe, trailing only Middlesbrough and Bristol in the UK. Surprisingly, the inland city shows higher concentrations than major ports like Antwerp, which historically led the rankings.

"Europe's wastewater tells the story of a drug phenomenon that is widespread, varied, and in constant flux."

The study, conducted by the SCORE network, also noted that Tarragona has stopped participating in the voluntary research. Across Europe, ketamine use rose by 41%, while MDMA saw a 16% decrease.
