Over 10,000 students have begun classes in the 55 undergraduate and double degree programs offered by the University of Lleida (UdL). Of these, nearly 2,600 are new entrants, distributed across the campuses of Igualada-UdL, Tremp, La Seu d’Urgell, and Lleida. The total university community exceeds 19,000 individuals, including students, teaching and research staff (PDI), and management and services staff (PTGAS). Furthermore, 35 out of the 50 programs offered by UdL's own centers have reached full enrollment, pending the extraordinary PAU (University Entrance Exams) call.
The University has filled nearly 2,600 of the 2,740 new places offered for the 2026-2027 academic year. Rector Maria Àngels Balsells expressed her satisfaction with the enrollment figures and the size of the university community, emphasizing that UdL is a "driver of territorial transformation" and a "very strong institution".
One of the main novelties this academic year is the implementation of the digital ID card, a more sustainable option available on mobile phones that reduces plastic usage. New students must book an appointment to activate it, with enrollment being the sole requirement. This card allows identification as a member of the university community, access to resources like the Library and Documentation Services, and enjoyment of various territorial service benefits. The physical card is an optional and exceptional choice, only strictly necessary for bicycle parking at the Rectorat, Cappont, and Agrònoms campuses.
The digital ID card also incorporates the European Student Card. The rest of the university community can activate their digital card through the UdL App, which will progressively introduce new functionalities, such as news, activities, events, and a participation space.
The start of the academic year was marked by the suspension of classes at the Higher Polytechnic School (EPS) due to the passing of its former director, Francesc Giné de Sola. However, welcome sessions for first-year students were held at all centers, including presentations of study plans, facilities, and resources such as the virtual campus, libraries, the Language Institute, the Sports Service, and the International Relations unit.
At the Faculty of Law, Economics, and Tourism, a scavenger hunt and a discovery tour of the Cappont campus have been organized. In Igualada, the welcome includes an afternoon snack, while the Higher Technical School of Agri-food and Forestry Engineering and Veterinary Science (ETSEAFiV) has scheduled presentations from the College of Veterinarians and the Catalan Biotechnologists Association.
The Faculty of Medicine has organized a session on "What I would have liked to know on the first day" and speed networking events. The Faculty of Nursing and Physiotherapy offers a "fun cohesion activity." In Tremp, students will participate in a scavenger hunt to explore the municipality, an initiative also planned for Igualada.
The Faculty of Arts includes an English level test. At INEFC Lleida, simultaneous 30-minute workshops have been scheduled, requiring participants to wear sportswear. At INEFC Pirineus in La Seu d’Urgell, new students will enjoy an adventure raid at the Parc del Segre before the official welcome ceremony.
