The Lleida Chamber of Commerce has warned that a potential disruption of trade relations with the United States, following statements by Donald Trump, would significantly impact local olive oil exports.

In 2025, Lleida exported goods worth 78.29 million euros to the US. While this represents 2.48% of total exports, olive oil accounts for 42.94 million euros, making it the most exposed sector to potential new tariffs or trade barriers.

"The mere announcement can generate uncertainty among suppliers and customers, slowing down purchasing decisions."

Experts suggest that the 12 local companies with consistent trade in the US should diversify their markets. Previous disputes, such as the Airbus and Boeing case in 2019, resulted in 25% tariffs on European agri-food products, serving as a warning for the current situation.
