The 'Mimosa' method, used by thieves specializing in robbing the elderly, came to light following an investigation by the Mossos d'Esquadra. The arrested individuals, a man aged 39 and a woman aged 37, traveled from the metropolitan region of Barcelona to villages in the Lleida area to locate vulnerable victims.
The modus operandi was as follows: the driver waited nearby to facilitate an immediate escape. The woman would approach the victims under any pretext, gain their trust, and then, by embracing or lunging at them, steal valuables such as jewelry, watches, or wallets.
The investigation remains open to determine the origin of the recovered jewelry, and it is not ruled out that they are the perpetrators of other incidents committed in the area.
The operation that led to the couple's arrest on Monday, January 12, was crucial thanks to the intervention of an off-duty officer. This action allowed not only for the arrests but also for the recovery of several pieces of stolen jewelry.
