A man with an extensive criminal record, including murders, has been arrested in Lleida after attempting to rob a supermarket in Pardinyes with a replica gun, merely one month after his release from prison.

The Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan Police) have reported the arrest of an individual, deemed dangerous and with a high risk of reoffending, who attempted to hold up a supermarket in Pardinyes using a replica firearm. The arrest occurred on Friday afternoon, just over a month after the individual was released from the Ponent Penitentiary Centre.
Despite control measures and non-invasive surveillance activated after his release from prison, the man reoffended. He was apprehended by the Guardia Urbana (Local Police) as the alleged perpetrator of a robbery attempt at a store on Baró de Maials street. The incident took place at 4:00 PM, when the assailant threatened a cashier with the gun before fleeing.
Security camera footage enabled the Mossos d'Esquadra to identify the alleged perpetrator as a man with a criminal record. An hour and a half after the robbery attempt, a patrol from the Local Police located him on Enric Pubill Lo Parrano street, in the Balàfia neighborhood.
The detainee, aged 56, has a criminal history that includes the murder of former police officer Josep Gilart, the death of another police officer during a bank robbery, and another homicide in Barcelona. In April 2021, he had already been arrested for two violent assaults on supermarkets in Lleida.
