Energy giant Moeve announced its partnership with the Lleida Alimenta ecosystem this Friday in Lleida, marking the region as a key territory for its green molecule production strategy.

Formerly known as Cepsa, the company is focusing on Lleida due to its vast agro-industrial resources. Under the Positive Motion 2030 plan, Moeve aims to open 30 biogas plants across Spain, backed by a 600 million euro investment to lead the energy transition.
The collaboration with the Lleida Provincial Council and the Raimat Community Foundation focuses on creating 'biopolygons.' These industrial areas are designed to convert organic waste from farming and forestry into renewable gas and bio-fertilizers, promoting a circular economy.

"The development of the circular bioeconomy can improve the viability and sustainability of primary production."

While Spain currently has 24 operational biomethane plants, experts highlight its massive potential. However, the expansion faces local challenges, including recent protests in the Segrià region against large-scale industrial projects in rural areas.
