This new path, 2 meters wide, runs along the left bank of the reservoir, parallel to the C-26 road. The Blue Route allows visitors to enjoy a prominent natural environment in Solsonès, promoting tourism that is respectful of the environment and the local economy.
The project has utilized existing paths and trails, minimizing environmental impact and integrating into the agricultural landscape and the riparian habitats of the Cardener river. The total investment amounted to 222,640 euros, funded by the Sustainable Tourism Plan for Destinations "Naturalment Lleida", which has 3.5 million euros from the Provincial Council of Lleida.
The infrastructure includes safety railings, directional and interpretive signage, as well as specific signage for the Cardener Blue Route. An eco-counter has been installed at the start of the route to analyze the usage and the social, tourist, and environmental impact of the path.
As part of the same "Naturalment Lleida" project, the Lakes Cycling Route has been enhanced with a 32-meter wooden footbridge to cross the Espona ravine, between the municipalities of Castell de Mur and Talarn. This action required an investment of 400,000 euros.
