The Paeria of Lleida has recently awarded the sports merit medal posthumously to journalist Dani Badia, in recognition of his dedication to sports journalism and the preservation of local history.

The journalist from Lleida, who worked at Catalunya Ràdio, is remembered for his passion and rigor in covering local sports, both mass and minority. His absence since 2022 has left a significant void in the sports radio scene of the region.
His work was not limited to narrating events; he strived to give visibility to facts, people, and teams that had Lleida and its territory as protagonists. Outside his professional life, his family and the city's football club occupied much of his time and dedication.
The journalist was known for his deep knowledge of the local football club, to the point of having spoken with all living players who had worn the jersey of the former Unió Esportiva Lleida. His vision went further, as he dedicated many years to collecting historical material, such as jerseys, photographs, and sound archives, with the aim of creating a club museum.

"This wisdom is now embodied by Oriol Jové, whom I consider his best successor."

Currently, this documentary collection is safeguarded and preserved, but it is considered essential that it be inventoried and exhibited to the public. With the Paeria already possessing much of the material from the former Unió Esportiva Lleida and other local sports entities, the need arises to go further in valuing this heritage, creating a narrative that tells the stories of joys and sorrows that have marked the region's sports for years.
