Renfe discontinued this Monday the four free Avant train services between Lleida and Barcelona that were launched on January 26 to address the regional rail crisis.

Although bus transfers at Vinaixa station are no longer required, temporary speed limits on the R13 and R14 lines are causing significant journey extensions. According to Alberto Puivecino, head of Mobility at CCOO in Catalonia, some trains have arrived with delays exceeding two hours.

"Adif and the administration rushed to restore traffic because there is a huge number of temporary speed limitations."

The union has urged the Territori department to maintain the free Avant services until full normality is restored. Meanwhile, the Manresa line still requires road transfers between Cervera and Terrassa, further complicating regional travel.
Since Renfe launched the initiative in January, the free services have recorded over 10,400 bookings, averaging more than 700 passengers daily. Speed restrictions also make it difficult for drivers to meet schedules within their legal driving time limits.
