During the clearing and sanitation tasks, workers expressed surprise at the extremely precarious conditions in which the occupants lived. The area featured a vast amount of accumulated debris that had encouraged the proliferation of large rodent pests.
According to witnesses, the presence of rats was constant, and the animals showed a total lack of fear toward humans. This location in the capital of Segrià has historically become one of the areas with the highest concentration of substandard housing.
The history of this settlement dates back to 1990, when families from the Old Quarter and riverbank camps moved into abandoned houses that had been expropriated for the Lleida canalization works.
