Several municipalities in Ribera d’Ebre, Segrià, Priorat, Bages, and Pallars Jussà registered temperatures above 40 degrees on Monday, the second day of the current heatwave.

The municipality of Vinebre, in Ribera d’Ebre, recorded the official record from the Meteorological Service of Catalonia (Meteocat) with 41.9 degrees Celsius. Other locations that exceeded 40 degrees include Lleida (41), Ascó (40.5), Torroja del Priorat (40.4), Torres de Segre and Seròs (40.3), Gimenells (40.2), Artés (40.1), and Sant Romà d’Abella (40).
The Meteorological Service of Catalonia has updated its intense heat danger warnings, which will extend until Thursday. Wednesday is expected to be the peak of the heatwave, with a red alert for maximum temperatures that could exceed 40 degrees in numerous parts of the country, except for areas like Camp de Tarragona and Alt Pirineu.
In response to this situation, Civil Protection has announced the expansion of municipalities at extreme fire risk. A total of 45 municipalities across 9 regions are at level 4, which prohibits access to natural areas to minimize risk.
