Stone staircase with dislodged steps at the entrance of an ancient monument.
The staircase of the Porta dels Fillols at Lleida's Seu Vella, an emblematic access point, is in a notable state of deterioration with dislodged steps, and there are no immediate plans for its repair.
This situation, which has already been denounced by visitors and content creators on social media, such as Antonio González (@elarquitectodeinsta), projects a negative image of the monumental complex. Although the access is usually closed, it occasionally opens for events, such as the recent Ap! Lleida awards ceremony, attended by Queen Letizia.
The director of the Turó de la Seu Vella, Joan Baigol, has acknowledged that the problem with the steps is long-standing. He pointed out that the team of architects from the Generalitat, responsible for periodic reviews, has not reported on the need to replace these steps, unlike other issues such as leaks, for which an intervention on the roof is planned.
“
"These steps have been like this for a long time. The team of architects from the Generalitat who periodically review the entire building has never informed us about the possible replacement of the steps, unlike, for example, the leaks, for which an intervention on the roof is planned."
The staircase's problems are not new. It was inaugurated in 2000 as part of the first major intervention of the 1993 Master Plan. Just two years later, the upper section had to be corrected due to several falls reported by the Amics de la Seu Vella. Both Baigol and the president of the Amics, Joan Ramon González, have agreed that the construction work was "unfortunate".
“
"While the restoration of the portal turned out very well, the staircase leaves much to be desired."
In an attempt to improve the maintenance of the monumental complex, the mayor of Lleida, Fèlix Larrosa, and the Minister of Culture, Sònia Hernández, agreed last December on a joint investment plan. This plan, based on the Walls Plan, should be completed by next June. Recently, the Government approved a subsidy of 310,000 euros for the current expenses of the Consorci del Turó de la Seu Vella.
