The police operation uncovered a structured criminal group based in Lleida. The suspects reportedly traveled to Galicia to collect copper wiring that had been previously cut by other gang members during telephone network upgrades.
Officers caught the suspects in the town of A Fonsagrada as they were preparing to drive back to Catalonia. Two vehicles were seized along with the stolen metal, which has an estimated market value of more than 20,000 euros.
The detainees have been brought before the Court of First Instance and Instruction of Becerreá. Investigators have not ruled out further arrests, as evidence suggests more individuals may be involved in this organized theft ring.
