The Minister of Agriculture, Òscar Ordeig, announced from Lleida that the 18 latest positive cases accumulated during the last twelve days of December and early January in the operational area of Cerdanyola and Sant Cugat del Vallès. So far, 621 wild boars have been analyzed, with a positive index of 8%. The detection of these new cases was made possible by incorporating canine teams from the Rural Agents Corps, which track hard-to-reach areas.
“"there are two pending samples to analyze, which we will surely have next week"
The first meeting of the Wild Boar Table will be held this Wednesday, January 7, at the Palau de la Generalitat and will be chaired by President Salvador Illa. The goal is to strengthen coordination and define new management and control actions for the species. Representatives from the Ministry, entities, and involved administrations will participate.
Regarding other health alerts, Ordeig detailed that the avian flu alert in the Urgell region could be lifted on February 3, after completing the culling of 230,000 chickens and disinfection on January 2. Likewise, the Government remains concerned about the outbreaks of Lumpy Skin Disease (DNC) in France, although restrictions in Cassà de la Selva and Castelló d'Empúries are being lifted.
Finally, the Department of Agriculture paid 4.8 million euros in compensation for mandatory sanitary culls before the end of the year, and the payment of the remaining 1.5 million is expected to be finalized before January 15.
