The data, provided by the Directorate General of the Police of the Ministry of the Interior, shows that six cases (planned or consummated) were reported in 2024, one less than the previous year. This figure represents a significant reduction compared to the 15 cases registered in 2022 and the 18 in 2023.
Most victims are women, although since 2014, three cases of men forced into marriage have been documented. The last male incident was reported in May 2025, when a 27-year-old man filed a complaint at a police station in Lleida.
Regarding the cases prevented in 2024, the police stopped four unions. Of these victims, only one was an adult, while the other three were minors aged between 11 and 15 years old. Additionally, a 19-year-old woman reported a marriage that had already been consummated.
Furthermore, the Mossos d'Esquadra also assisted three people regarding female genital mutilation (FGM) during the first quarter of 2025. The police confirmed that none of these practices were recorded as having been committed within Catalonia. In 2024, twelve women were assisted for FGM, with ten cases being prevented and two confirmed to have been carried out in their country of origin.
