The author of the reflection declares himself an admirer of King Melchior since childhood, attracted by his venerability, his initial position among the Three Kings, and the fact that he is the bearer of gold. Furthermore, in Lleida, Melchior is the one who usually delivers the speech from the City Hall balcony, a fact that reinforces his popularity.
According to authorized sources, the monarch expresses that, after waiting a whole year, the parade feels too short. Although he accepts the time limitation to start distributing gifts early, he asks every year to pass through more streets in the city to greet the thousands of children gathered along the route.
“"What King Melchior likes the most are the faces of the children, faces of an illusion that is neither contaminated nor spoiled."
King Melchior also takes the opportunity to thank all the staff, entities, marching bands, the Guàrdia Urbana (Local Police), and animation groups that make the event possible, considered the most crowded and free street event in Lleida. He and his companions, Gaspar and Baltasar, wish for this centuries-old tradition to endure.
Finally, the Eastern monarch makes a request to the children: that they strive to be better, fight less, do their homework, help at home, and write their letters on time. King Melchior has confirmed his fidelity to the appointment on the evening of January 5 to bring gifts, wisdom, and the magic of Christmas.
