Lleida City Council has initiated the renovation of the Eix Comercial's lighting, replacing 220 lampposts with LED technology to achieve a 64% energy saving.

Starting tonight, work will commence to replace the 220 lampposts located on the catenary system of Cardenal Remolins, Democràcia Magdalena, Carme, Travessera del Carme, plaça de la Sal, Major, Sant Antoni, and Alcalde Costa streets.
The new luminaires will utilize LED technology, which is projected to result in a 64% energy saving and offer enhanced lighting performance.
The project, with an estimated duration of one month, will be carried out during nighttime hours, approximately from 9 PM to 5 AM, to minimize disruption to residents and commercial activity in the area.
The renovation will begin at the intersection of Carrer del Carme and Democràcia and will include the aforementioned streets. Subsequently, around November, luminaires in other adjacent streets such as Pi i Maragall, Santa Marta, Blondel, and Vila de Foix will also be replaced.
This initiative is part of the new public lighting maintenance contract for the city, financed by an 8 million euro loan from the Institute for the Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDAE) to replace obsolete technologies with LED throughout the city.
To date, 9,450 out of the 14,545 planned luminaires have already been replaced in this process, which is scheduled to be completed by March of next year.
