The Mayor of Lleida, Fèlix Larrosa, announced on Tuesday the creation of a new Aldermanic Commissionership to coordinate public space management, supported by an inspection body with sanctioning power.

The announcement was made during the mayor's annual meeting with the media. The new commissionership will be led by Jordi Domingo, who previously served as head of the urban planning service for the Paeria (Lleida City Council). Its main function will be to ensure the proper functioning of all matters related to public spaces in the city, coordinating all services and concessionary companies.

The Paeria will grant licenses for 190 affordable homes, which will be added to the 159 already under construction.

Larrosa defended the importance of the newly approved municipal budget, valued at 278 million euros, without which the new cleaning contract and the renewal of the telecare contract could not be carried out. He also mentioned crucial actions to prevent flooding in the Cappont neighborhood, including works to increase channel capacity agreed upon with the Central Government.
Furthermore, the mayor of Lleida highlighted progress in affordable housing. These new social housing units will be developed through public-private collaboration, involving the free cession of municipal land surface for 75 years.
Finally, Larrosa stated that the new POUM (Municipal Urban Planning Plan) will allow the Pla de l'Estació to be unlocked and noted that the Paeria currently has 120 projects underway. Additionally, in February, the city council will approve a 95% IBI (Property Tax) bonus for affordable housing.
