The Paeria government, led by Mayor Fèlix Larrosa, decided to withdraw the allocation of a plot in the Camí dels Frares industrial estate for the mosque, seeking a consensus solution before Friday's plenary session.

The decision, confirmed by Larrosa in an interview with Lleida Televisió, means the file was not included in the agenda of the preparatory commission. The direct allocation intended to grant the land to the Comunitat Islàmica de Cooperació i Unió de Lleida i Comarca del Segrià for 50 years with an annual fee of 1,000 euros.
The postponement occurred because the municipal government, with only nine councilors, needs the support of the opposition (PP, ERC, or Junts, each with five councilors) to approve the measure. The direct allocation option was proposed after the previous tender called by the city council was unsuccessful.

"It is undignified that we have people praying in the street, and as mayor, I must provide a response. There is a debate heavily contaminated by Islamophobic positions by some groups who will have to provide the explanations they need to give."

Fèlix Larrosa · Mayor of Lleida
Larrosa defended the necessity of finding a solution to prevent the Muslim community from continuing to pray in public spaces, as recently occurred under the canopies of the Camps Elisis fairgrounds, after they had to vacate the Palau de Vidre due to renovation works.

"I want to find a consensus solution and facilitate that everyone in Lleida can pray according to their beliefs within urban planning order and in an organized city."
