Mayor Fèlix Larrosa announced in Lleida the start of a €2.1 million urban planning project designed to protect the Cappont neighborhood from Segre river flood risks over the next 7 to 12 months.
The Mayor of Lleida, Fèlix Larrosa, confirmed the imminent start of the works, budgeted at 2.1 million euros, which will be jointly funded by the Generalitat and the State. This investment is crucial to protect the Cappont district from potential flooding of the Segre river, ensuring safety for a period of 100 years.
The main works will focus on lowering the canalization park to increase drainage capacity, a solution already implemented successfully in cities like Zaragoza and endorsed by the Ebro Hydrographic Confederation (CHE). Additionally, the containment wall of Grenyana will be reinforced, and structures such as the Príncep de Viana bridge and floodgates will be consolidated.
“
"we put an end to a problem we have been dragging for 35 years, since the canalization park was built."
This action will unblock essential equipment projects for Cappont, such as the construction of the institute and the expansion of the CAP (Primary Care Center), which had been unfeasible for 41 years due to flood zone regulations.
“
"that with these works the institute can be unlocked, as it is a facility we have been demanding for decades and we see it as very necessary for a neighborhood that has more than 16,000 inhabitants."
